Serving Gardnerville, Minden, Carson City, Zephyr Cove, and the South Lake Tahoe areas

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Service Area: Located in Douglas County, Nevada, we serve Gardnerville, Minden, Carson City, Zephyr Cove, South Lake Tahoe, and the Highway 395 corridor south of Gardnerville.

Our Service Call fee is $75 for calls within 30 miles. An additional charge of $3.00 per mile is applied after the first 30 miles. The Service Call fee is only charged for one direction.

We use Google Maps to calculate mileage, starting at 1362 US HWY 395 N, Gardnerville, Nevada. If two or more clients happen to be in the same RV park, each client is still charged a Service Call fee.

Our Shop Rate is $175 per hour, with a minimum charge of one hour, for a RVTAA Certified Technician.

Understanding SHOP RATE versus HOURLY RATE – they are not the same thing! We charge a flat rate per task based upon an industry standard guidebook and not by the time we spend. This is the same method used by automotive repair facilities when they give you an estimate. The first hour charged is for diagnosis, regardless of how long the diagnosis takes.

Here is an example: Your furnace is not functioning. The first hour is billed for diagnosis, whether the actual problem is diagnosed in 15 minutes or an hour. Once the cause of the problem is identified you will receive a quote to complete the repair. For instance, if the diagnosis determines the burner needs to be replaced, the industry standard to remove and replace the burner is .6 hours. You will be quoted a fee of $105 to complete the repair ($175/hr shop rate divided by .6 equals $105). Your total fee would be $355 ($75 Service Call fee, plus $175 for the diagnosis, plus $105 for the repair), plus the cost of the burner. If the furnace must be removed from the RV to gain access to the burner, the standard is 1.5 hours to remove and replace the furnace, an additional $262.50 would be added for a total cost of $617.50, plus parts. The repair might be completed in less time, or more time. In any case you know exactly what your final cost will be before any repair work is initiated. Should you choose not to have the repair completed at that time the cost would be the $75 Service Call fee plus the one-hour diagnosis fee of $175 for a total of $250.

We aim to be as transparent as possible and using this shop rate-based model is fair both to our clients and to Ridgeback RV Services.

Payment: We accept payment via debit or credit card, or cash. A 5% discount off our labor charge is given if paying in cash. Current and past members of the military, public safety, and medical professionals always receive a 10% discount on our labor charge whether paying with card or cash.

Help Us Help You! The more we know about your RV’s issue, the better. Our Service Request Form is the best way to contact Ridgeback RV Services. Filling out this form completely will give us a very good idea of the solution to your RV’s issue. This includes coming to you with the parts most likely needed to complete your service in one visit. Be aware, the RV industry is infamous for changing parts for the same model of appliance; this is why having both the model number and serial number of your problem appliance is critical!

If You Phone Us: You are welcome to phone us at (775) 525-9505. If we cannot pick up please leave a voicemail with your name, phone number, the issue you want to address, and how late we can return your phone call or text you. We will respond as soon as possible and strive to return every call by 6pm at the latest. Also, please pay attention to our greeting: If we will not be returning calls that day (John may be playing in the mountains) we will include that in our voicemail greeting.

Return Call Policy: Occasionally it is necessary to make a second visit to complete a repair, such as the needed part is not in our on-truck inventory.  In such cases a $25 Return Call fee may be assessed. Each case is based upon the reason the repair could not be completed during the initial call.

Our 90-Day Workmanship Warranty means you can have confidence in our work. We warranty our work for 90 days, provided you are still at the location where the work was performed and within our service area. For example, we fixed a leaking water pump, but it started leaking again within 90 days. We will return for free to repair the leak if it’s a result of our workmanship. (If the water pump began to leak again because it failed mechanically, we would give you a quote to repair or replace the water pump, plus a $25 Return Call fee.)

Our Parts Warranty covers the parts we sell and is limited to the manufacturer’s warranty. We know RV parts can be found on Amazon for less but, unfortunately, the sourcing and handling of parts purchased from Amazon cannot always be controlled. We will install your parts on a case-by-case basis, and your final receipt will reflect that these parts are not warrantied. We support RV industry distributors by purchasing from them whenever possible. This way we are confident in the source of the parts, the quality of the parts, and that our distributor will stand behind the manufacturer’s warranty.

Your Receipt will detail everything! It will list your Complaint (the RV’s problem), the Cause (as determined by our diagnosis), and the Correction (what we did to fix the problem). The receipt will also include the cost of any parts or shop supplies, and any warranty details. Ridgeback RV Services also keeps a file for all the work we’ve done for our clients, so we have a history of the services we’ve provided should we need it in the future.

RV Check-up Program: Visit our RV Check-up page for more details, but our Check-up Program is a great – and low cost – way to examine the health of your RV’s appliances, components, and systems. You’ve likely heard the adage that your RV is experiencing an earthquake every mile it travels down the road. The simple truth is, any RV that doesn’t need attention today, will need it in the future. Preventive maintenance and quick inspections can save you money (and stress) in the future. Select a minimum of four different Check-ups from our list of appliances, components, and systems. Pay $40 per item. We will provide a written report of each, detailing the current condition. If any issues are found, we will provide a quote to complete the repair. The $40 paid for the Check-up of that appliance, component, or system will be applied to the cost of the repair!

Discounts: We honor current and past members of the military, public safety, and medical professionals with a 10% discount on your labor charge. Just let us know! A 5% discount on our labor charge is offered to all clients who pay cash.

Factory and Extended Warranty Work is taken on a case-by-case basis. Before we can commit to performing factory or extended warranty work, we need to confer with you and the involved factory or warranty company, as their procedures can vary greatly. Hopefully we already have a relationship with the factory or warranty company, or it is easy to create (some are, some aren’t). Sometimes our client must pay for services, to be reimbursed later through their warranty. Ideally, the factory or extended warranty will pre-approve all work quickly (typically after a full diagnosis is performed and any needed parts are identified) and we can have your RV’s problem solved as quickly as possible!

What We Don’t Do: Being a mobile RV repair provider, and specializing in RV-specific appliances and systems, there are limitations to our services. We do not perform slide repairs requiring removal of the slide, nor full roof replacements. We do not offer welding services, chassis/frame repairs, nor engine or automotive-related services.

If you need an awning replaced, please call us with the type and size of awning and the V Number (typically found on a label affixed to your awning). If you want to confirm if we can perform a specific service before you complete our Service Request Form, please email us at: info@RidgebackRVServices.com or phone.
